Isaan Live Podcast Episode 12, at the OTOP Fair, in Khon Kaen
This is a large "wmv" file so it may take a bit to load depending on the speed of your connection. So please be patient.
Am working on offering a "mp4" file but having problems
This week Isaan Live Podcast comes to you from the OTOP Fair and Khon Kaen University. It’s not the best Podcast so far, but does give you a real look at what’s going on. They changed the dates and participants have been more than halved. I do not know who or why and doubt that I will find out. Anyhow hope you join me as I stumble through, walking and talking at the same time.

Fishing Shop, Beung Kaen Nakhon, khon kaen, isaan
A friend of mine was looking for a tackle shop that might also do reel repair. I pointed the one pictured to him
The place has been there since the days you could go fishing on the lake and eat the fish without fear of glowing in the dark. From what my friernd said the place is quite the find. Has plenty of bits and pieces and can do repair as well.
So if you find yourself in town and need tackle or reapirs this is the place

Not so trashy in Isaan, cunning in Kalasin
These recycled rubbe, trash container are to be found throughout the region. The are usualy on stands a few inches off the ground and are sturdy and longlasting. To a dog these look like food bowls and are a terrible temptation. What of ten happens is the householder is a bit too lazy to bend down a take the lid off and put it back on, and sometimes the lids run away from home.
Well the town of Tha Kantho, in the Amphor of that name in the Provinve of Kalasin has upgraded to whole idea by setting the container on 4 legged stands. No more bending over for the lid and no more temptation for the neighborhood dogs.

vesakha puja, Khon Kaen, Isaan, Wat Phra That (mobile post) 17.05.11
The first Governor of Khon Kaen had the temple built in1789,early in the cities history. The name of the temple came from the Phra That pagoda that was built on the grunds as a holy site. The original pagodas on the temple ground were badly ruined and the original Phra That unidentifiable, so the committee decided to build a new 45 meter tall That, which is now in some disrepair. The principle bronze Buddha image is in the ubosot, ordination hall.
Altough the present Governor attendedmorning Vesakha ceremonies here there was not much of a crowd. More dslr photos later

Are Bangkok people the Laziest of all Thais?
This photo was taken in the Makro parking lot Nong Kai. The parking lot was nearly empty and the owner of this Bangkok registered truck was too lazy to ark in a parking spot and to walk and extra 2 meters. I have seen this happen when lots are full but never quite like this. You EPL fans might also note that this person is a Liverpool supporter which may or may not have something to do with it.

This would not happen in a Buddhist Country
I was trying to get a picture of this plonker when he started hollering something about pictures of monks. I mentioned that I understood that, but as he had a handful off money and was buying food to eat after noon he obviously was not a monk.
He then touched the cashier when this so called alms mendicant paid for his food and I also brought up that 3rd monks cannot touch a woman. When I saw him standing eating in a corner, monks do not eat or drink, or pee standing up, he and his crony ran off. The people in the store were even laughing at this clown.
It is just too easy when the Ministry of Bare Chested Women is in charge of this type of thing

Songkran driving around the beung kaen nakhon 140411
I had to do it once since I was in town. Officially the road around Beung Kaen Nakhon becomes one-way, clockwise from 1200-2100 during the 3 days. So a bit after 1700 I started around the lake. Due to the traffic and the way the Thais drive taking pictures at a top speed of 3 kph for much of the trip was dodgy at best. The west side of the lake was the worst with people going the wrong way, parked and in some cases only 1 lane was open. The east side moved much better and I actually got up to 4th gear for a bit.

the morning is the religious and traditional part of songkran, Chants are chanted, people take the precepts, monks chant the blessings and the people offer food to the monks. Then the people then the people wash the Buddha statues and the hand of the senior monks. Beside the official provincial start of songkran this will go on at temples throughout Isaan and Thailand.
